In addition to the established wedding service at the registration office, it is customary to hold a few classic events if you are planning a Ukrainian wedding. These include the otsitki, where the partners is presented with water and a round bright food loaf. A piece of wheat is supposed to be broken off, seasoned with salt, and eaten by the couple. The more the bread is broken, the better, because it represents a long, joyful marriage. They are subsequently supposed to crush the remainder. The newlyweds even receive a blanket that they must step on as they exit the service house. This is meant to be the first glimpse into their upcoming family.

The newlyweds are pampered by the family’s ( starosty ) on a rushnyk-style embroidered cloth. A short while before the formal ceremony, this occurs. If the relatives are feeling dramatic, they might actually attempt to deceive the Bride into paying a good by using an imitation of the wife.

On the day of the ceremony( Saturday or sunday ), the home would get prepared. Flowers and food were picked, food was prepared, and cooking began, typically making korovai, a special ritual bread made of dough and decorated with birds, flowers, and animals. It was usually made by women who were regarded as having particular traits, including that they were certainly widows, that they had happy kids, and that they were wealthy.
